On Saturday 22 April 2017 Enniskillen’s Frankie McPhillips, the renowned fly dresser and supplier of innovative flies, fly tying materials and fishing tackle was in Coburns, Scarva Street, Banbridge for a ‘meet and greet’ event. Frankie, who has been tying flies for over 35 years and is one of the island of Ireland’s best known and respected fly tyers, demonstarated tying a number of mayflies and other lough patterns. He discussed the tyings and shared his experiences of how to successfully fish the flies. Frankie and well known local angler Freddie Steele reminisced about anglers, fly patterns and fly fishing experiences on the big loughs in the west of Ireland during the past thirty years. Frankie also provided some lucky anglers with a few samples of his flies to try over the coming months. Coburns provided this great opportunity for local anglers to meet Frankie and discuss fly tying patterns and fishing in the west of Ireland. We hope that it will not be long before Frankie is back in Coburns. Coburns stock a selection of Frankie McPhillips’ flies and tying materials which are available to purchase.
