On Saturday 14 March 2020 Co. Fermanagh’s Frankie McPhillips, the renowned fly dresser and supplier of innovative flies, fly tying materials and fishing tackle was in Banbridge Angling Club’s Clubrooms, Banbridge for a ‘meet and greet’ event with local anglers. Frankie’s fishing, fly and dubbing ranges are amongst the finest available. Frankie, who has been tying flies for over 40 years and is one of the island of Ireland’s best known and respected fly tyers, demonstrated tying a number of river and lough flies including his renowned mayflies and Green Peters. He also discussed the tyings and shared his experiences of how to successfully fish the flies. There was a great turnout of local anglers, with many anglers also travelling from Lisburn, Rathfriland and Hilltown for the event. It was also nice to see renowned local fly dressers and casters Arthur Greenwood and Pat Mulholland in attendance. Frankie also brought along a selection of his innovative fly-tying materials for purchase. These were complemented by a great slection of Ollies’ fly-tying capes which were also available for purchase. Frankie has a great tackle outlet at his home in Tempo, Co. Fermanagh and visiting anglers are always very welcome.
