Getting us fishing safely again

BAC Evening Rise at Corbet Lough on Saturday 17 June 2017

Throughout the past few weeks Banbridge Angling Club has been working in partnership with The Ulster Angling Federation the ABC Council and other stakeholders across the angling community, to provide the safe return of angling at Corbet Lough.

In recent days the Club has continued to make representations to ABC Council in the form of a detailed risk assessment to demonstrate that angling could safely reopen at Corbet Lough.  ABC Council has now confirmed that it is content to reopen the Corbet Lough carpark from Saturday 23rd May 2020.

In light of ABC Council’s decision to reopen the carpark the Club will now proceed to implement Phase 1 of its reopening of angling at Corbet Lough with SHORE angling reopening on Saturday 23rd May 2020 at 8:00am. Further Phases to safely reopen the Boat Angling and the sale of Day Tickets at Corbet Lough will be implemented in due course. Members will be notified accordingly.

Please remember that we all have a responsibility to act as ambassadors for angling. If we fish safely we will continue to support the national effort to combat COVID-19 transmission while being able to enjoy our wonderful sport. Anglers must comply with best practice as stipulated in any current advice and guidance from the NI Executive. In addition anglers will observe new signage in relation to COVID-19 at Corbet Lough. This signage provides advice and guidance for angling safely and preventing the spread of COVID-19. Please take the time to familiarise yourself with this advice and guidance prior to fishing.

We would point out that to fish club waters membership must have been renewed and paid in full along with the additional obligation for all freshwater anglers to hold a valid rod license. Club Bailiffs and Officials may have to engage with anglers for the purpose of checking membership cards and implementing the Club’s rules. Anglers are reminded to cooperate in a courteous manner which is also compliant with COVID-19.

The Club thanks all its members for your patience and continued support throughout this difficult time.

Keep safe and tight lines.
