BAC – Andrew Rea with a great Brownie taken at the Corbet Lough on 29 August 2020

The month of September has started with a continuation of the unsettled weather. The heavy rain and strong winds have left the Corbet Lough quite murky and the fishing has been challenging. On Thursday 3 September Stevie Rea had a good boat session with five fish including a cracking Rainbow of just over 5lbs. Davy McCandless took three nice fish up to 3lbs on the fly from the front shore during the late evening. Nigel Beckett also took a great fish of about 5lbs on the fly. On Saturday 5 September the Club’s competition anglers fished at the Corbet Lough for the Gowdy Cup. Although a lot of the anglers caught fish the problem was catching a good Rainbow. Wilson Clinghan, who won the Cup with a great brace of fish weighing 5.606lbs, had six fish to the net before he caught the two that he was happy with. David McCandless and Colin Crothers were 2nd and 3rd respectively. Geoff Hylands had six fish to the net but four were browns and he didn’t think that the other two would count. The next competitions are back at the Corbet Lough on Saturday 12 September. The adult anglers will be fishing for the Bruce Carson Trophy and the juveniles will be fishing for the Carson Cup. The juniors will also be fishing at the Corbet Lough on the 12 September for the Percy Trophy. On Monday 7 September Geoff Hylands and Leonard Ervine had a great session with eleven fish between them to the boat. On Friday 11 September Aidan Lavery and John McClelland had a great morning’s boat fishing with nine fish between them. On Saturday 12 September the Club’s competition anglers competed at the Corbet Lough. In the adult competition Roger McClements won the Bruce Carson Trophy with a great brace of fish weighing 4.563lbs. Dessie Graham and David McCandless were 2nd and 3rd respectively. In the juvenile competition Sam Curran won the Carson Cup with a good fish weighing 1.865lbs. In the junior competition Elijah Parks won the Percy Trophy with Jayden Smyth in 2nd place. The next competitions are back at the Corbet Lough on Saturday 26 September. The adult anglers will be fishing for the Toasty Jardine Shield and the juvenile anglers will be fishing for the Graham Cup. During w/c 21 September there has been a real autumnal feel to the weather with a significant drop in the temperature and some ealy morning frost. On Saturday 26 September the Club’s adult anglers fished at the Corbet Lough for the Toasty Jardine Shield. Henry McKnight took the Shield with a great brace of Rainbows weighing 5.546lbs. His catch included a cracking Rainbow weighing 3.783lbs. Roger McClements was in 2nd place with Sam Grant and Derek Burns in joint 3rd place. In the juvenile competition Patrick Curran won the Graham Cup with a good Rainbow weighing 2.098lbs. The Club’s next competitions are at the Corbet Lough on 10 October when the adult anglers will be fishing for the Hanlon Cup (Adults) and the juveniles will be fishing for ther Hanlon Cup (Juveniles).
