BAC – 6lbs Rainbow caught by Donal McCullaugh at the Corbet Lough on Friday 9 April 2021

On Thursday 1 April the weather turned bitterly cold and although many anglers ventured out in the boats at the Corbet Lough most struggled to stay out for the full session and as a consequence the catches were poor. On Friday 2 April the weather improved and the boats at the Corbet were busy. Most anglers reported good catches. Leonard Ervine caught a great Rainbow of about 3.5lbs. In the late afternoon and early evening Brendan Downey was fishing from the shore and he had 3 nice fish on the fly, including a beautiful Brown of about 2lbs. Leonard Ervine was also out in the evening fishing from the shore and he caught a cracking Rainbow of over 4.5lbs on the fly. On Saturday 3 April young angler Aria Kearney was fishing with her granda Frank and she caught her first fish, a beautiful Rainbow. On Sunday 4 April Geoff Hylands and Leonard Ervine had a good boat session with 7 fish to the boat. On Tuesday 6 April Andrew Rea and Colin Scott had a great day’s fly fishing from the shore at the Corbet Lough. They caught and released 17 fish, up to 4lbs, using nymphs. On Friday 9 April Donal McCullaugh was fishing from the shore at the Corbet Lough and he caught a cracking Rainbow of 6lbs. On Saturday 10 April it was another very cold day at the Corbet Lough. However Patrick Curran caught a great brace of fish on the fly including a cracking Rainbow of about 6lbs. Geoff Hylands and Darryl Alexander also caught some great fish on the fly. On Wednesday 14 April Darryl Alexander also caught a great Rainbow of 6lbs on the fly. On Friday 23 April Brendan Downey was fly fishing from the shore at the Corbet and he had a great afternoon’s fishing. He caught 4 nice fish up to about 2.5lbs and had numerous other hook-ups, pulls and tugs. Darryl Alexander was also out in the afternoon fly fishing from a boat and he had some fantastic sport with 6 fish to the boat. On Saturday 24 April there was a good turn out of anglers at the Corbet Lough. Sam Grant had a fantastic brace of fish for over 7lbs 8ozs including a great Rainbow of over 5lbs 8ozs. Geoff Hylands had a great bag of fish for over 6lbs. Kevin Conwell and Leonard Ervine had a fine brace of fish for over 5lbs and Martin Dynes also had a nice Rainbow in the bag. The Club’s competition anglers will be back at the Corbet Lough on Monday 3 May when the adults and juveniles will be fishing for the Jos Willis Cups. On Tuesday 27 April David Hutchinson was fly fishing at the Corbet Lough from the shore and he had 5 good fish up to 5lbs. Brendan Downey was also fly fishing from the shore and he also had 5 fish with the best at about 3lbs. Wilson Clinghan was fly fishing catch and release from the shore and he had a great session with 6 nice fish.
