Fishing Report – June 2021

On Saturday 5 June 2021 there was a good turn out of anglers fishing at the Corbet Lough. It was hard fishing from the shore but most boat anglers reported good fishing and some great catches. The top boat on the day was Stevie and Andrew Rea with 25 fish to the boat. Stevie and Andrew are having some fantastic boat fishing at the Corbet Lough over the past few weeks and they have regularly being catching double figures. On Saturday 5 June the Club’s competition anglers headed to Lough Lene to fish for the Straghan Cup. There were some great bags of fish caught with Joe Curran winning the Cup with a fantastic bag of fish weighing 5.326lbs. Geoff Hylands was 2nd with a brace of fish weighing 4.744lbs and Eugene Curran was 3rd with his brace of fish weighing 4.356lbs. The Club’s next competition is on the River Bann on Friday 11 June for the Otterburn Brown Trout Trophy. On Sunday 6 June Andrew Rea and Scott Greig enjoyed some good boat at the Corbet with 10 good fish. During w/c 7 June Aidan Lavery, Lisburn had some great evening fishing at the Corbet with fish on the dries. On Friday 11 June Stevie Rea had a good boat session on the Corbet with 11 fish. The Club’s competition anglers fished on the River Bann during the evening of Friday 11 June for the Otterburn Brown Trout Trophy. At the end of a good competition Roger McClements won the Otterburn Brown Trout Trophy with Colin Crothers and Keith Gibson 2nd and 3rd respectively. The Club’s next competition is back at the Corbet Lough on Friday 18 June for the Boat Anglers Cup and the Wardsworth Bethel Cup. On Saturday 12 June William Cochrane and David McCreedy enjoyed good boat fishing at the Corbet Lough with 4 fish between them. In the evening Sam Grant enjoyed a great boat session with 6 nice fish to the boat. Nigel Beckett also had a great evening’s fishing with 8 good fish from the fishing stand in the top bay. On Monday 14 June Brendan Downey had 4 nice fish on sedge patterns at Bruce’s Point. In the evening Colin Crothers and Noel Burns had 9 fish between them to the boat. Roger McClements and Sam Grant had 4 fish each to the boat. Geoff Hylands also had 4 fish to the boat. On Friday 18 June the Club’s competition anglers were boat angling for the Boat Anglers Cup at the Corbet Lough. It was a hard evening’s fishing. At the weigh-in Sam Grant and Roger McClements were in joint 1st place with 2 fish each. Joe Curran, Trevor Jones, Dean McStraw and Keith Gibson were in joint 2nd place with 1 fish each. The Club’s next competition is on Friday 25 June on the River Bann for the Dessie Smyth Cup. On Saturday 19 June there were a number of boats out on the Lough. They were all regularly into fish. On Thursday 24 June Nigel Beckett was fly fishing from the shore in the top bay at the Corbet and he had 6 nice fish. On Friday 25 June visiting angler Brian Horgan had a good boat session at the Corbet with three good fish. On the same afternoon Brendan Downey was fly fishing from the shore and he had 5 nice fish on sedges. On Friday evening the Club’s competition anglers were on the River Bann fishing for the Dessie Smyth Cup. Wilson ‘Skippy’ Clinghan won the Cup with Keith Gibson and Colin Crothers 2nd and 3rd respectively. The Club’s next competitions are back on the Corbet Lough on 3 July. The Junior anglers will be first up fishing for the Dr Cocks Shield. Then in the evening the Adult anglers will be fishing for the Pyers Cup and the Juveniles will be fishing for the Martin Dynes Cup. On Saturday 25 June visiting anglers Tom and Gabriel Walls from Dundrum had a great boat session at the Corbet with 10 fish up to 4lbs 8ozs between them. They reported a good rise and that they took the fish on the cats whisker and sedges. On Saturday evening Sam Grant also enjoyed a good boat session with 4 fish up to 3lbs. On Wednesday 30 June it was a pleasant evening at the Corbet with the temperature still 14 degrees at 11pm. Nigel Beckett and Davy McCandless had a great evening’s fly fishing from the shore. Nigel had 9 fish and Davy had 5 fish.
