BAC – Corbet Lough 3 August 2019 – Boats ready for The Silver Butchers

The fishing at the Corbet Lough from both boat and the shore is currently fantastic with fish feeding on the surface and close to the surface. Anglers are reporting some great sport. On Monday 2 August visiting anglers Keith and Sandra Moffett enjoyed some great boat fishing with over 30 fish between them. Brendan Downey was out in a boat for a couple of hours and he had 9 nice fish. In the evening Leonard Ervine also enjoyed a very good boat session catching 13 fish. Dave Hutchinson has been fishing the fly from the shore and catching fish regularly. Dave caught 3 fish on Tuesday 3 August, 5 fish on Wednesday 4 August and 3 fish again on Thursday 5 August. On Thursday evening Sam Watt enjoyed some great boat fishing with 20 fish. On Friday 6 August Stevie Rea had over 50 fish to the boat in a few hours. In the afternoon John Johnston had over 20 fish up to 3lbs to the boat. In the evening Joe and Patrick Curran were out in the boat for a couple of hours and they had over 20 fish between them. On Sunday 8 August visiting angler Steven Turnbull enjoyed a great boat session with 30 fish up to 4.5lbs. Darrell McKinley was also out in a boat on Sunday and he had 37 fish. On Sunday evening Leonard Ervine and Geoff Hylands had over 20 fish between them to the boat. Leonard had a cracking fish of 7lbs. On Monday 9 August the boats were busy throughout the day. Visiting anglers Sandra and Keith Moffett enjoyed another great boat session with over 20 fish between them during their morning session. Corbet regulars Lance McCarthy and Matt Shields also had a great morning’s boat fishing with 20 fish between them in a couple of hours. Stevie Ferris also enjoyed a good morning’s fishing regularly taking fish to the boat. In the evening Leonard Ervine and Geoff Hylands had 16 fish between them to the boat. On Thursday 12 August the conditions were blustery at the Corbet and the fishing was a bit more challenging. However Stevie Rea and David McCreedy were out in the boat during the morning and early afternoon and they had 11 fish between them. Keith Moffett and his newphew had 14 fish between them to the boat. Lance McCarthy and Matt Shields also had good boat fishing with over 10 fish between them. On Saturday 14 August the Club’s competition anglers fished at the Corbet Lough for the Jordan Cup. Sam Grant took the Cup with a nice brace of fish weighing 4.638lbs. Roger McClements and Joe Curran were 2nd and 3rd respectively. The Club’s next competition is back at the Corbet Lough on Saturday 28 August when the adults will be fishing for the Shooter Cup and the juveniles will be fishing for the Joe Curran Cup. On Sunday 15 August Kevin Conwell was fishing from the shore and he caught 9 nice fish on the fly. On Saturday 21 August The Silver Butchers Angling Club held an boat fishing outing at the Corbet Lough. By all accounts they had some great fishing with the majority of the anglers taking up to eight or nine fish. On Saturday 28 August the Club’s competition anglers were fishing at the Corbet Lough for the Shooter Cup. The conditions were very bright, hot and calm which made the fishing very challenging. However the anglers still managed to catch a fish or two. At the weigh-in Leonard Ervine took the Shooter Cup with a nice brace of fish weighing 4.360lbs. Colin Crothers and Roger McClements were 2nd and 3rd respectively. The Club’s next competitions are back at the Corbet Lough on Saturday 4 September. The adults will be fishing for the Gowdy Cup and the juveniles will be fishing for the Super Fry Cup. There will also be the final junior competition of the season when the juniors will be fishing for the Corbet Junior Cup. Leonard Ervine, Davy McCandless and Nigel Beckett all all still catching some nice fish on the fly in the evenings. During the day the bait anglers David McKeague, Patrick Murphy and his grandson Eoin from Rostrevor and Lawrence Haughian, Lurgan have been catching some nice fish. On the Bank Holiday Monday 30 August there was a good turn out of shore and boat anglers at the Corbet Lough with many children enjoying an fishing outing before returning to school. Pearse Downey caught 2 lovely fish on the worm. Geoff Hylands was boat fishing and he caught 9 fish. Brendan McGrath was also out for a couple of hours boat fishing and he had 4 fish.
