BAC – Andrew Rea with a great Brownie taken at the Corbet Lough on 29 August 2020

The Club made another supplementary fish stocking of fish up to 3lbs at the Corbet Lough at the start of the month and along with the great fishing conditions anglers are enjoying some fantastic sport from both the shore and the boats at this time. On Thursday 2 September there were a few boats out on the Lough. Lance McCarthy and Matt Shields enjoyed great boat fishing during the morning. Stevie Rea and Mark Douglas were out for most of the day and they also enjoyed some great fishing with over 40 fish between them. On Saturday 4 September the Club’s competition anglers were at the Corbet to fish for the Gowdy Cup (adults) and the Super Fry Cup (juveniles). Imogen Johnston won the Super Fry Cup with a nice fish of 1.410lbs. Indeed when Imogen realised that she had won this competition she sportingly fished ‘catch and release’ for the remainder of the day. Dessy Graham won the Gowdy Cup with a good brace of fish weighing 5.277lbs. Wilson Clinghan and Henry McKnight were 2nd and 3rd respectively. A number of other anglers including Leonard Ervine, Trevor Jones and Roger McClements also bagged up but they were outside the prizes on this occasion. It was great to see Imogen Johnston back fishing the competitions along with her uncle Henry McKnight and to make it a very good day they both won prizes. The Club’s next competitions are at the Corbet Lough on Saturday 25 September when the adults will be fishing for the Toasty Jardine Shield and the juveniles will be fishing for the Graham Cup. In addition to the competition anglers there was also a good number of pleasure anglers at the Corbet. Andrew Rea was boat fishing alone and he took 25 fish up to 6lbs. Steven Turnbull and Stevie Clarke shared a boat and they also enjoyed some great fishing with Steven taking 25 fish and Stevie taking 12 fish. Anglers have continued to enjoy great fishing at the Corbet Lough over the past couple of weeks. Davy McCandless and Nigel Beckett have been catching some very good fish on the fly from the fishing stands in the front bay up to dusk. On Monday 20 September Leonard Ervine had a great day’s fly fishing from the shore at the Corbet. He caught 5 fish including a great Rainbow of 3.5lbs and an absolute cracking Rainbow of about 7lbs. Leonard sportingly returned the fish which he hopes may turn up again for him at the Club’s next competition on the Corbet. On Saturday 25 September the Club’s competition anglers fished at the Corbet Lough for the Toasty Jardine Cup. Dessy Graham won the Cup with a catch of 4.739lbs. Derek Burns and Leonard Ervine were 2nd and 3rd respectively. Imogen Johnston was unavailable to fish in this competition as she was fishing in the Irish Junior Youth International on Lough Lene. The Club’s Competition Secretary and all the competition anglers wished Imogen tight lines. The Club’s next competitions which will be the penultimate competitions in the 2021 season are back at the Corbet Lough on Saturday 9 October. Anglers will be competing for the Hanlon Cup (Adults) and the Hanlon Cup (Juveniles).
