
The Corbet is fishing extremely well from both the boats and the shore and some great fish being caught on dries. On Saturday 1 June there was a big turn out of boat and shore anglers at the Corbet Lough. Raymond Cherry and Aidan Lavery were out for a boat session and they had over 40 fish between them. Eddie Harris and Gary Chivers also had over 40 fish to the boat. Stevie Rea was out boat fishing and he had 26 fish. Dennis Lucas and Roy McKee were out and they had 9 fish to the boat. The Club’s competition anglers were at the Corbet Lough for another evening competition. This time they were fishing for the Jim Ledlie Cup. At the weigh-in Roger McClements was again the winner with a brace of great Rainbows. Geoff Hylands and Keith Gibson were 2nd and 3rd respectively. On Sunday 2 June Eugene Curran and Sam Grant were out boat fishing and they had 15 fish between them. On Monday 3 June Eddie Harris and Maurice Lemon had 16 fish between them to the boat. Aidan Lavery and Jim McClelland were also out and they had 6 fish to the boat. Joe Beck was fly fishing from the shore and he had great sport taking a couple of nice fish on a bloodworm and black buzzer. Donald McClearn was also fly fishing from the shore and he took a numbers of fish on Diawl Bachs and cormorants. On Thursday 6 June Aidan Lavery and Jim McClelland were out for a boat session on the Corbet Lough and they had 14 fish to the boat between them. Gerard Lyness and Tom King were also out and they had 10 fish between them whenever I was speaking to them. On Monday 10 June Aidan Lavery and Eddie Harris were out boat fishing on the Corbet and they had 12 fish between them. Lance McCarthy and Matt Shields were also out and they had 6 fish to the boat. Maurice Lemon was out boat fishing and he had 3 great fish up to 5lbs. On Thursday 13 June Aidan Lavery and Jim McClelland were out boat fishing on the Corbet and they caught 12 fish between them. On Friday 14 June Stevie Rea and Lance McCarthy were out on the Corbet and they had 22 fish to the boat between them. Roy Blake was also out boat fishing and he caught 10 fish. Visiting angler Greg Thompson enjoyed some great sport catching 12 fish. On Saturday 15 June the Club’s competition anglers fished an evening competition at the Corbet Lough for the Otterburn Trophy. At the weigh-in Roger McClements won the competition with Davy McCandless and Dessy Graham 2nd and 3rd respectively. On Monday 17 June juvenile angler Riley Craig was out boat fishing on the Corbet and he caught a beautiful Rainbow of 6lbs. Riley sportingly returned this great fish. Although the weather was sunny and warm from mid June, anglers who got the tactics right still enjoyed some great fishing at the Corbet. The boat anglers who concencrated on the deeper, cooler water reported some great catches with Stevie Rea catching and releasing 22 fish and Gerard Lyness catching and releasing 28 fish. The shore anglers can also get some great fishing during the couple of days up to dusk using buzzers and sedges. On Friday 28 June and Saturday 29 June the Club’s competition anglers fished an evening boat competition at the Corbet Lough for the Boat Anglers Cup. This was a ‘catch and release’ competition and it proved to be very successful. Sam Watt won the Boat Anglers Cup with 9 fish. Donald McClearn and Stevie Clarke were 2nd and 3rd respectively both with 8 fish and Donald getting 2nd place based on the time of his 1st fish.
