
On Saturday 3 August the Club’s adult competition anglers fished an evening competition on the River Bann for the Dessie Smyth Cup. This competition was fished on a ‘catch and release’ basis using the Club’s new measuring boards. At the weigh-in Roger McClements won the Cup with a total fish length of 33cm. Keith Gibson was 2nd with a total fish length of 26cm. On Thursday 8 August Corbet Lough regulars Lance McCarthy and Matt Shields were out for a few hours boat fishing during the morning. They saw a lot of fish moving but they were hard to catch. They had a nice fish each to the boat. Roy Blake was also out during the morning and he had 2 fish to the boat. Brian McConville was fly fishing from the shore during the morning. He also reported fish rising. Brian caught 3 nice fish with the best one weighing about 4lbs. On Monday 12 August Adrian Round was fly fishing catch and release on the River Bann and he had some beautiful wild brownies. On Thursday 22 August Donald McClearn ŵas at the Corbet Lough fly fishing from the shore from the shore and he caught 4 nice fish on the dry fly. Leonard Ervine, Geoff Hylands and Donald McClearn have all been catching good fish from the shore up to dusk during the past few weeks.
