In light of the deteriorating environmental conditions at the Corbet Lough over the past few weeks a number of fish have died and a significant number of fish are showing signs of distress. Therefore the Club has decided to close the Corbet Lough with effect from Thursday 3 September to avoid putting extra pressure on the fish from fishing. The Club will continue to monitor the situation at the Corbet so that it can be reopened as soon as the conditions improve. As the conditions at the Corbet Lough improved the Club reopened the Lough for fishing from Saturday 12 September pending a decision at the Club\u2019s monthly Committee meeting on 14 September. The Club\u2019s competition anglers were at the Lough fishing for the Toasty Jardine Shield. Despite the blustery conditions with a southerly wind blowing down the Lough the anglers around Hillen\u2019s point on the Castlewellan side of the Lough were into fish from the off. Geoff Hylands had measured a couple of fish by 12 noon. One of the anglers also reported a couple of double hook ups. Two anglers caught 7 fish each and there was 19 fish caught between the 7 anglers. The best flies on the day were dry daddies and diawl bachs just under the surface. At the weigh-in Roger McClements won the Toasty Jardine Shield with 2 fish measuring 98cms. Dessy Graham and Geoff Hylands were 2nd and 3rd respectively. On Wednesday 16 September Wilson Clinghan caught 4 fish at the Corbet Lough. On Thursday 17 September there was 3 boats out on the Corbet. There was a strong blustery SSW wind on the Corbet and the fishing was challenging. The best catch was by Tom King and Gerard Lyness who had 7 fish between them pulling wets.
