The Corbet Lough Day Ticket and the Corbet Lough Concession Day Ticket, at just £16 each for a day’s fishing and a four fish bag limit, is excellent value for money. On Sunday 1 October juvenile angler Scott Swindell caught a cracking Corbet Rainbow of 3lbs 12ozs on the worm. This is the best fish caught by a juvenile angler outside of the competitions so far this season. On Thursday 5 October Lisburn angler Tom Cherry was boat fishing at the Corbet and he had a nice Rainbow on a Green Peter. On Saturday 7 October Tony Kelly, Lurgan was fishing Corbet from the shore and he had a couple of nice fish on the fly. There has been some good water in the River Bann during the past few weeks and this has seen the arrival of some tourists (salmon and dollaghan) in the Club’s stretch of the river. Geoff Hylands and Eugene Curran, dedicated salmon anglers, have been out and they have had some success with a few salmon each on the fly. The Club encourages all anglers to fish the river responsibly and to practise C, P & R (catch, photograph and release). The River Bann Day Tickets, which are great value for money at just £7 for adults and £4 for juveniles, can be purchased from the Boat Attendants Office, Corbet Lough, Coburns Tackle Shop, Scarva Street, Banbridge and The Anglers Rest Bar and Bistro, Corbet. On Saturday 14 October the Club’s adult competition anglers fished Corbet Lough for the Hugh Savage Cup. They caught some great fish and some great bags of fish with the fly out fishing both the spinner and the worm on this occasion. Keith Gibson had four fish and Martin Dynes had a brace whilst Henry McKnight was unlucky in hooking and losing four fish. Martin Dynes won the Hugh Savage Cup with a cracking Rainbow of 4lbs 13ozs. David McCandless was 2nd with a great fish of 4lbs 2ozs and Keith Gibson was 3rd with another great fish of 3lbs 4ozs. On Monday 16 October Storm Ophelia hit Co Down and not many anglers ventured out on Corbet during the week. On Saturday 21 October Stevie Clarke was out for a few hours over lunchtime and the early afternoon and he had a cracking Rainbow of around 4lbs to the boat. There was also a few anglers fly fishing from the shore but they did not touch any fish. If you are free on Sunday 29 October Armagh Angling Club is holding ‘An End of Season Get Together’ for both members and non members at Shaw’s Lake, Glenanne from 11am – 2pm. This is a fly fishing only outing and there is a 3 fish bag limit. The minimum donation to fish is £8 per angler. All the proceeds from this outing will be donated to a charity of the Armagh Angling Club’s choice. If you are looking for some good end of season fly fishing in good company get along to Shaw’s Lake, Glenanne for 11am. In addition you will be helping a good cause. On Sunday 29 October Roger McClements ‘put the cat among the pigeons’ when he weighed in a cracking Rainbow of 5lbs 3ozs which he caught on the fly at Corbet Lough. This fantastic fish put Roger into the points in the Heaviest Fish of the year competition and also into the lead in the adult Angler of the Year competition. Although other competition anglers fished hard over the 30 and 31 October and caught some decent fish up to 3lbs 8ozs they were unable to catch a fish to beat Roger. On the River Bann Geoff Hylands ended up with seven salmon on the fly. Eugene Curran had five or six salmon for the season. Adrian McAnarney also had a couple of salmon. George Veniard had a couple of salmon and some good dollaghan.

The Corbet Lough is the home fishery of Geoffrey Hylands, World Cup Winner 2017.
