
On Saturday 4 April the Club’s adult competition anglers fished the Corbet Lough for the Dominic Downey Cup. It was a cold and windy day but the anglers still had some fantastic fish at the weigh-in. Len Murray won the Cup with a great fish weighing 5lbs 4ozs. Frank Kearney and Geoff Hylands were 2nd and 3rd respectively. Len has had a great start to this season’s competitions and this is second victory. On Monday 6 April the Club’s adult competition anglers fished a catch and release competition on the River Bann for the Linda McCandless Cup. At the end of a very close competition, Geoff Hylands won the Cup with a lovely wild Brown Trout measuring 38cm. Trevor Jones and Brian Russell were 2nd and 3rd respectively. Dr Jacqueline Rippington attended the results ceremony and presented her late mother’s cup to the winner, Geoff Hylands. The boat fishing at the Corbet Lough has been challenging. On Thursday 9 April there were three boats out. Stevie Rea and Lance McCarthy had 9 fish to the boat including a Rainbow of 7lbs and another one of 6.2lbs. Tom King and Gerard Lyness had 8 fish, including 3 lovely Brown Trout, to the boat. On Saturday 18 April the Club’s competition anglers were at Lough Lene, Co Westmeath fishing a boat fishing competition for the AIB Cup. All the fish caught were returned unharmed. Joe Curran won the competition with 5 fish, Geoff Hylands was 2nd with 4 fish and Sam Watt was 3rd with 3 fish. Back at the Corbet Lough Woodburn Anglers held a boat fishing outing. All the anglers reported catching fish with the best catch 8 fish and the best fish weighing 7lbs. David McCreedy and James McCreedy were out boat fishing for a few hours. David had 6 fish and James had 8 fish to the boat. The anglers fly fishing from the shore also reported catching. Gary Chivers had 5 fish, Roger McClements had 4 fish and Leonard Ervine and Paul McKinstry had fish up in the top bay.
