On Saturday 1 August the Club’s competition anglers fished a ‘catch and release’ competition at the Corbet Lough for the Jordan Cup. At the end of the evening Dessy Graham was confirmed as the winner with 2 fish measuring 87cms. Trevor Jones and Raymond Cherry were 2nd and 3rd respectively. On Monday evening 3 August Dessy Graham, Geoff Hylands and Geoffrey Moorhead enjoyed great fly fishing from the shore. Dessy had 7 fish, Geoff caught 5 fish and Geoffrey caught 3 fish. On Saturday 15 August the Club’s competition anglers were at the Corbet Lough with the adults fishing for the Shooter Cup and the juveniles fishing for the Graham Cup. After the hot weather during the past week the fishing was very challenging. The fish seem to have moved out of the shallow warm water and into the deep colder water. At the results there was only 2 fish recorded. Geoff Hylands won the Shooter Cup with a fish of 42cms and Xavier Mackle won the Graham Cup with a fish of 35cms. Gerard Lyness and Tom King were boat fishing at the Corbet and they fished deep taking 33 fish between them. The fishing at the Corbet Lough has been very challenging during the past few weeks. On Saturday 29 August the Club’s competition anglers were at the Corbet Lough to fish for the Howard Hanlon Cup and it was a very hard day’s fishing. There was only 3 fish measured for the weigh in. Lenny Murray won the Cup with a fish of 40cms. Brendan Downey was 2nd with a fish of 36cms and Sam Grant was 3rd with a fish of 34cms. It was great to have Howard Hanlon’s grandsons Richard and Michael Hanlon, visiting from England, at the Corbet Lough to present their grandfather’s Cup to Lenny Murray. On Sunday 30 August the Club heard the fantastic news that local angler Dessy Graham had won the Garrison and Lough Melvin Open Competition 2026. Dessy is a regular at the Club’s competitions and one of the Club’s best competition anglers. Dessy’s success is well deserved.
