
On Saturday 6 June the Club’s competition anglers fished an evening ‘catch and release’ competition at the Corbet Lough for the McGivern Shield. At the results ceremony Len Murray was declared the winner with 2 fish measuring over 100cms. Jack Russell and Roger McClements were 2nd and 3rd respectively. On Saturday 13 June Chris Cowgill reported some great sport catching and releasing lovely wild Brown Trout on the River Bann. The Club’s competition anglers travelled to Lough Melvin to fish a ‘catch and release’ competition for the Linda Clinghan Shield. They enjoyed some great fishing with 31 fish meeting the size measure and also a number of smaller fish. At the results ceremony Geoff Hylands was declared the winner with 7 fish. Andy Holden was second also with 7 fish and Patrick Curran was 3rd with 4 fish. Geoff won the competition on the basis of catching his first measurable fish before Andy. Andy caught a specimen Melvin Trout measuring about 70cms and weighing about 9lbs. Definitely the fish of a lifetime. During the first 2 weeks of June the anglers at the Corbet Lough have been enjoying great fishing from both the shore and the boats. Geoff Hylands, Donald McClearn, Leonard Ervine, Paul McKinstry, Raymond Cherry, George Gallagher, Roger McClements and Brendan Downey have been reporting some great fishing from the shore on dries. Stevie Rea, Lance McCarthy, Matt Shields, Stevie Ferris, Tom King, Gerard Lyness, Les Patton, Lenny Murray and Martin Hawkins have been reporting some great catches from the boat. On Thursday 18 June Stevie Rea had 21 fish to the boat at the Corbet Lough. On Friday 19 June Stevie Rea and Andy Jackson had over 40 fish between them to the boat. Martin Hawkins was also out and he had 20 fish to the boat. On Saturday 20 June Leonard Ervine and Paul McKinstry enjoyed some great sport from the boat on dry daddies. In the evening the Club’s competition anglers fished a ‘catch and release’ competition for the Otterburn Trophy at the Corbet Lough. Roger McClements won the competition with a catch of 99cms. Sam Grant and Dessy Graham were 2nd and 3rd respectively.
