On Saturday 4 July the Club’s competition anglers fished an evening competition at the Corbet Lough for the Woods/McClorey Cup. It was a challenging competition with a poor evening rise at the Lough. At the results 5 anglers recorded a 2 fish catch with boobies being the top fly. Frank Kearney won the Cup with Sam Grant and Roger McClements 2nd and 3rd respectively. The boat attendants report that the fishing picked up at the Corbet Lough on Wednesday 22 July. Some anglers fishing from the shore enjoyed good sport on buzzers. On Thursday 23 July the boat anglers at the Corbet Lough also had good fishing with one boat catching 16 fish and another boat catching 13 fish. On Saturday 25 July the Club’s competition anglers fished an evening ‘catch and release’ competition on the River Bann for the Dessie Smyth Cup. There were fewer anglers than usual which may have been due to some anglers on holidays and the low water in the River. However the competing anglers still caught and returned some great fish. Roger McClements won the Dessie Smyth Cup with a trout measuring over 45cms. Geoff Hylands was 2nd with a trout measuring 37cms and Trevor Jones was 3rd with a trout of 31cms. Wilson Clinghan also reported hooking and loosing a few really good fish at the net. During the last week in July anglers have caught some nice fish at the Corbet Lough on both the fly and the worm. On Tuesday 28 July Geoff Hylands had some nice fish from the shore on a variety of dry patterns. On Wednesday 29 July Ronnie Adair, Derek Williamson and Brendan Downey all reported catching fish from the shore on dries. On Friday 31 July the boat anglers at the Corbet Lough has some great sport. Lenny Murray and Pat Magee had 30 fish between them on a variety of tactics. Stevie Rea had 14 fish to the boat.
