
On Thursday 3 October there were a couple of boats out fishing on the Corbet Lough. Stevie McArdle and Dean McStraw caught 7 fish between them. Brendan Downey caught 6 fish and also hooked and lost another 4 fish. There have been some good floods down the River during the last few weeks. There are reports of anglers catching Salmon, Dollaghan and Brown Trout. On Thursday 10 October Nigel Erskine was at the Corbet fly fishing from the shore and he caught 3 fish on dry daddies. On Friday 11 October Brendan Downey was at the Corbet and he had 3 fish on a bibio. On Saturday 12 October the Club’s adult competition anglers were at the Corbet Lough fishing for the Hugh Savage Cup and the junior anglers were fishing for the Corbet Lough Cup. The fishing was good and a number of anglers caught 5 fish and more. At the weigh-in Derek Burns won the Hugh Savage Cup with Keith Brown and Geoff Hylands 2nd and 3rd respectively. In the junior competition Elijah Parks won the Corbet Lough Cup. On Tuesday 15 October Geoff Hylands was at the Corbet and he caught 6 fish on the fly. On Saturday 19 October the Club’s adult competition anglers fished the Corbet Lough for the Toasty Jardine Shield. At the weigh-in Geoff Hylands won the Shield with Roger McClements and Davy McCandless 2nd and 3rd respectively. On Saturday 26 October the Club’s adult competition anglers fished the final competition of the season at the Corbet Lough for the Gowdy Cup. At the weigh-in Wilson ‘Skippy’ Clinghan won the Cup with Roger McClements 2nd and Dessy Graham 3rd. On Monday 28 October Louis Clarke was at the Corbet Lough and he caught a couple of fish on the fly and he also hooked and lost a few other fish. On Tuesday 29 October Louis was back at the Corbet Lough and he was fly fishing from the Dam Wall. He had caught 3 fish on the fly before lunch time. On Thursday 31 October Wilson Clinghan was fly fishing on the Newcastle shore at the Corbet Lough and he caught 10 fish with a couple of them in the 4lbs bracket.
