Anglers are still catching some nice fish during the evening rise at the Corbet Lough. On Monday 5 May the Club’s competition anglers were at the Corbet Lough with the adults fishing for the Jos Willis Cup and the juveniles fishing for the Joe Curran Cup. The fishing was challenging with bright sunshine for a lot of the day. At the weigh-in Jack Russell won the Jos Willis Cup with a brace of fish weighing 8lbs 14ozs. Jack also caught the best fish of the day weighing 5lbs 9ozs. Frank Kearney and Donald McClearn were 2nd and 3rd respectively. Rhys Aitken won the Joe Curran Cup with a catch weighing 4lbs 2ozs. On Thursday 15 May the bright sunshine deterred many regular boat anglers from fishing at the Corbet. However the anglers in the 4 boats that ventured out enjoyed some good sport. The fishing was definitely challenging with lines and flies being changed frequently as anglers tried to keep up with where the trout were in the water column. Stevie Rea was the top rod with 14 fish to the boat. Stevie’s catch included 3 double hook ups. Lance McCarthy and Matt Shields also had a good morning’s boat fishing with 12 fish to the boat. On Saturday 17 May the Club’s junior anglers fished at the Corbet Lough for the Percy Trophy. The conditions were challenging with bright sunshine and it was very warm. Gary and Ben Beattie were also out and they had a couple of good fish to the boat. Some of the boat anglers reported that many fish were just plucking at the flies and following them back to the boat without taking them. On Friday 30 May the conditions at the Corbet Lough were a bit better than previous days and there were 6 boats out. The top rod was Stevie Rea who had 17 fish to the boat. It was good to see Willie Cochrane out at the Corbet. Willie caught 3 fish including a great Rainbow weighing about 5lbs.
