BAC – Boat anglers fishing the Corbet Lough at dusk in June 2025

On Saturday 2 August the Lough was busy with both boat and shore anglers. Dessie Copeland and Keith Moffitt were out fishing from the boat and they had 11 fish between them. Keith had a fantastic Rainbow weighing 7lbs 1oz. This is the best fish to date weighed in for the Club’s Kerr Cup competition. In the afternoon/evening the Club’s competition anglers were at the Corbet Lough with the adult anglers fishing for the Jordan Cup and the juveniles fishing for the Barlow Shield. The fishing was challenging with not many fish showing and the anglers had to negotiate the weeds. At the weigh-in Leonard Ervine won the Jordan Cup with 3 good fish weighing 6lbs 12ozs. Roger McClements and Brendan Downey were 2nd and 3rd respectively. In the juvenile competition Louis Clarke won the Barlow Shield with a nice fish. On Thursday 7 August the boats at the Corbet were very busy. Gerard Lyness and Tom King had 13 fish between them to the boat. Roger Armstrong and Colin Patterson also had 13 fish between them. Les Patton and Neil McAdam had 11 fish between them. Lance McCarthy had 5 fish to the boat. Brendan Downey had 7 fish on dry daddies and hoppers. Sam Grant and Roger McClements had 13 fish to the boat between them with Sam catching a great fish of 4.5lbs. Lenny Ervine and Derek Burns had 7 fish including one of 4lbs and a couple of 3lbs. David McQuade and his boat partner had 16 fish between them. On Sunday 10 August Lenny Murray and Martin Hawkins were boat fishing at the Corbet and they had 25 fish between them. Lance McCarthy was out and he had 8 fish to the boat. Connor Braniff had 4 fish to the boat. Eamonn and Del Rodgers had 7 fish between them to the boat. Louis Clarke was fishing from the shore and he had 4 fish. On Thursday 14 August the Lough was busy with a number of anglers out fishing. The pick of the catches were Stevie Rea and Mark Douglas with 17 fish to the boat, Sam Grant and Roger McClements with 11 fish between them, Les Patton with 7 fish to the boat, Lance McCarthy with 5 fish to the boat and Simon and Clare Henderson with 4 fish between them to the boat. On Friday 15 August Stevie Rea and Louis Clarke were out on the Corbet Lough fishing from the boat and they had 24 fish between them. Les Patton and Neil McAdam were also out and they had 6 fish to the boat. Roy and Mark McNeil had 7 fish to the boat between them. Peter Martelli and David McQuade also had 6 fish to the boat. On Saturday 16 August the Club’s competition anglers were back at the Corbet Lough. The adults were fishing for the Shooter Cup with the juveniles fishing for the Graham Cup and the juniors fishing for the Dr Cocks Shield. The fishing was challenging with very bright conditions but whenever there was a bit of cloud cover and a gentle breeze the anglers chances of catching improved. At the weigh-in the catch was much better than many expected. Roger McClements won the Shooter Cup with a great bag of fish weighing 6lbs 14ozs. Dessy Graham and Noel Burns were 2nd and 3rd respectively. In the juvenile competition Jacob Heslip won the Graham Cup with a fine fish weighing 3lbs 11ozs with Alfie Wallace in 2nd place. In the junior competition Elijah Parks won the Dr Cocks Shield with a nice fish weighing 2lbs 15ozs with Xavier Mackle in 2nd place. On Sunday 17 August Stevie Clarke and Keith Cole were out on the Corbet for a boat fishing session and they had 36 fish between them. Philip Rankin and John Lewis had 6 fish to the boat between them. On Thursday 21 August there was 7 boats out on the Corbet Lough. Tom King and Gerard Lyness had 22 fish up to 4lbs to the boat. Keith Moffitt and Dessie Copeland had 21 fish between them to the boat. Stevie Rea and Mark Douglas had 21 fish to the boat. Lenny Murray and Martin Hawkins also had 21 fish to the boat. Lance McCarthy and Stevie Ferris had 15 fish between them to the boat. Martin Bush and Riley Craig had 8 fish to the boat. Simon Henderson and David Swain had 5 fish between them to the boat. Lenny Ervine was fly fishing from the shore and he had 9 fish up to 4lbs. George Gallagher was also fly fishing from the shore and he had a couple of good fish on the shipman’s buzzer. Gabriel and Malachy McKinney were also fishing from the shore and they had 3 fish each. The top flies on the day were cormorants, diawl bachs and shipman’s buzzers. On Friday 22 August the Lough was again busy. Brendan Downey had 10 fish up to 4lbs on diawl bachs and shipman’s buzzers to the boat. Stevie McArdle and Jim Kennedy had 6 fish between them to the boat. Les Patton and Neil McAdam had 5 fish to the boat. Geoffrey Moorehead also had 5 fish to the boat. Damian Murtagh was fly fishing from the shore and he had 5 fish on shipmans. Louis Clarke was also fly fishing from the shore and he had 4 fish up to 3.5lbs. Wilson Clinghan had a couple of nice fish from the shore in the evening. On Saturday 23 August the Corbet Lough again fished very well especially for the boat anglers. Gary Chivers and Wesley Beattie had 20 fish to the boat between them. Roger McClements and Sam Grant had 16 fish to the boat with Sam catching well on the Claret Dabbler. Roy McKee and Denis Lucas had 8 fish to the boat. Damian Murtagh had 5 fish to the boat. Gary and Ben Beattie also had 5 fish to the boat. Kenny Bird had 2 nice fish to the boat. On Sunday 24 August there was 7 boats out on the Corbet Lough. Sam Watt and Stevie Clarke had 25 fish between them to the boat. Andrew Rea and Louis Clarke had 22 fish to the boat. David McQuade and Peter Martelli had 21 fish between them. Lenny Murray and Martin Hawkins had 9 fish with 2 of them over 5lbs. Lance McCarthy and Stevie Ferris had 8 fish between them. Philip Rankin and John Lewis had 5 fish. William Cochrane had 3 good fish. The anglers fishing from the shore also reported some good catches. Davy McCandless had 10 fish on the fly. Paul McKinstry was also fly fishing and he had 6 nice fish on shipmans. Lenny Ervine had 5 fish on the fly with one over 3lbs. The McKinney family also caught fish and lost a really good fish at the net. On Thursday 28 August seven boats were out on the Corbet and there was a few anglers fishing from the shore. Tom King and Gerard Lyness had 25 fish between them to the boat. They were pulling wets and took a lot fish on a stimulator fly. Stevie Rea and Louis Clarke had 21 fish between them. Louis had a lovely fish of 5lbs and Stevie caught 3 brownies which were all in great condition. Jim McClelland and Stevie Ferris had 10 fish to the boat on wets. Richie Jamison and Martin Bush had 9 fish to the boat between them. Brendan Downey had 8 fish to the boat with most taken on the Claret Dabbler. Wilson Clinghan had 6 to the boat and Lance McCarthy had 5. Simon Henderson had a couple of nice fish to the boat. On the shore Donald McClearn had 3 fish on daddies. Paul McKinstry had a couple of nice fish. Geoff Hylands had a lovely brownie of about 2lbs. In the late afternoon and early evening Lenny Ervine was catching on the fly. On Friday 29 August there was 5 boats out on the Corbet Lough and a number of shore anglers fishing. Stevie Rea and Louis Clarke had 9 fish up to 4lbs between them. Geoff Hylands and Lenny Ervine had 8 fish between them to the boat. Geoff had a great 5lbs Rainbow on his snail pattern. Lance McCarthy and Stevie Ferris also had 8 fish pulling wet flies. Les Patton and Neil McAdam had 4 fish on cormorants. Raymond Cherry and Wesley Beattie were out pulling wets and Raymond had a great Rainbow of over 5lbs on a Red Arsed Green Peter. On the shore Paul McKinstry had 2 fish and George Gallagher had 3 fish on the fly. Gordon Bingham had 2 fish on the worm including a lovely fish of 4lbs. On Saturday 30 August the conditions at the Corbet Lough were challenging with s strong gusty South/South Easterly wind and prolonged periods of heavy rain. As a consequence there was fewer boats out on the Lough. Experienced boat angler Stevie Clarke and his boat partner Gary Crothers had 15 fish between them. Roy and Mark McNeil had 10 fish to the boat. Martin Magee had a nice fish to the boat. The Club’s competition anglers were at the Corbet Lough fishing for the Hanlon Cup. At the weigh-in Colin Crothers won the Hanlon Cup with a good bag of fish weighing 6lbs 1oz. Donald McClearn and Raymond Cherry were 2nd and 3rd respectively. Although August is normally a challenging month for fishing the Corbet has fished magnificently throughout the month with anglers catching big numbers of fish and big fish. Keith Moffitt’s fish of 7lbs 1oz was definitely the pick of the month.
