BAC – Keith Moffitt with a 7lbs 1ozs Rainbow Trout caught whilst fly fishing from the boat at the Corbet Lough on 2 August 2025

On Thursday 4 September there was 7 boats out on the Corbet Lough. Stevie Rea and Mark Douglas had 25 fish between them to the boat. Stevie McArdle and Jim Kennedy had 16 fish between them to the boat. Geoff Hylands and Lenny Ervine had 13 fish on green and black lures. Lenny Murray and Martin Hawkins had 12 fish to the boat. Dessie Copeland and Andy Holden had 7 fish between them. Frank Kearney had 6 fish on lures. Les Patton and Neil McAdam had 5 fish to the boat. Sam Grant had 4 fish on the Claret Dabbler. On Friday 5 September Stevie Rea had 22 fish to the boat. Les Patton and Neil McAdam had 5 fish to the boat. Lance McCarthy and Stevie Ferris had 4 fish to the boat. The shore anglers also enjoyed some great fishing on the fly. Ronnie Adair had 14 fish over a couple of days. Donald McClearn had 6 fish on diawl bachs and shuttlecocks. Geoff Hylands had a 4lb rainbow and George Gallagher and Davy McCandless each had a lovely brownie of about 2lbs. On Saturday 6 September the Silver Butchers from Lisburn held a boat fishing outing on the Corbet Lough. They enjoyed some magnificent fishing with 126 fish between them. They top rods on the day were Wesley Beattie with 21 fish, Bill Johnson with 19 fish and Raymond Cherry with 14 fish. Marty Ferguson had a fish of 4.4lbs, Wesley Beattie had one of 4.2lbs and Gerard Lyness had one of 3.11lbs. On Sunday 7 September the Corbet continued to fish well. Louis Clarke and Damian Murtagh had 12 fish to the boat. Martin Bush and Riley Craig had 10 fish to the boat between them. On Thursday 11 September there was 7 boats out on the Corbet Lough. There was a gusty breeze across the Corbet and the fishing was challenging. However Martin Hawkins and Len Murray had 13 fish to the boat. Martin had a great fish of 5lbs on a shipmans. Stevie Rea also had 13 fish to the boat catching well on the diawl bachs. Tom King and Gerard Lyness had 9 fish between them to the boat. Lenny Ervine was fly fishing in the top bay and he had 4 lovely fish including a Rainbow of 4lb, a Brown of 3lbs and another Brown of 2lbs. On Friday 12 September there was 6 boats out on the Corbet Lough and the fishing was challenging again. Stevie Rea had 11 fish to the boat on diawl bachs and boobies. David McQuade and Peter Martelli had 9 fish to the boat between them. Phillip Rankin had 2 fish to the boat on the red arsed peter. Les Patton had 2 fish to the boat on diawl bachs. Geoff Hylands was fly fishing from the shore and he had 4 fish on wets. Geoffrey Moorehead was also fly fishing from the shore and he had a great fish of 3.5lbs. On Saturday 13 September the Corbet was busy with both boat and shore anglers. However the fishing was challenging with a strong gusty breeze on the Corbet. The pick of the boat anglers was Corbet regulars Tom King and Gerard Lyness who had 9 fish between them to the boat. The Club’s competition anglers were also at the Corbet with the adults fishing for the Toasty Jardine Shield and the juniors fishing for the Martin Dynes Cup. Wilson ‘Skippy’ Clinghan won the Toasty Jardine Shield with 3 good fish. Colin Crothers and Derek Burns were 2nd and 3rd respectively. Elijah Parks won the Martin Dynes Cup with a nice fish. On Sunday 14 September a couple of boats got out before the strong breeze and heavy rain hit the Corbet. Keith Moffitt and Conor Kelly fished deep and they had 11 fish on diawl bachs between them. Stevie Ferris and Jack Wills were also out and they had 3 fish to the boat. On Thursday 18 September all the boats were out on the Corbet Lough. The fish were well up in the water with a big number of recent stockies showing along with a good few fish from earlier stockings. The pick of the reported catches were David Kidd with over 20 fish to the boat on cdc dries. Brendan Downey had 20 fish to the boat up to about 4lbs pulling wets. Gerard Lyness and Tom King had 16 fish between them to the boat. Lance McCarthy and Stevie Ferris had 9 fish between them. Les Patton and Neil McAdam also had 9 fish between them to the boat. Sam Grant had 6 fish to the boat and he also got broke on a couple of really good fish. Terry Gault was fly fishing from the shore and he had 4 fish. Lenny Ervine was fly fishing in the top bay and he had a lovely fish of 4lbs. On Friday 19 September there was a couple of boats out on the Corbet. Lenny Ervine and Geoffrey Moorehead had 22 fish between them up to about 3lbs. Lance McCarthy and Stevie Ferris were also out and they had 7 fish to the boat on buzzers. On Saturday 20 September Woodburn Anglers had 4 boats out on the Corbet and they reported over 60 fish between them with the top boat catching 20 fish. Club members Lenny Murray and Martin Hawkins were also out and they had 25 fish between them to the boat. Sam Grant had 14 fish including a fantastic Brownie of about 4lbs to the boat on small wets. On Sunday 21 September Stevie Clarke and Dave Watson were out for a boat fishing session on the Corbet and they had 22 fish between them on cormorants, diawl bachs and dries. Conor Kelly and Keith Moffitt had 9 fish between them to the boat. Philip Rankin and John Lewis had 8 fish to the boat. Damian Murtagh and Stevie Ferris had 3 fish to the boat. The shore also fished well. Roger McClements had 7 fish on the fly. Geoff Hylands had 6 fish including 4 nice brownies on the fly. Louis Clarke had 2 fish in the top bay. Malachy McKinney had a good rainbow on the worm. On Tuesday 23 September the shore anglers enjoyed some great fishing at the Corbet Lough. Aidan Donnelly had 15 fish up to 4lbs on bloodworms. Ronnie Adair had 6 fish on diawl bachs and suspender buzzers. Lenny Ervine had 4 fish on cormorants. Damian Murtagh had 3 fish on hoppers. Geoffrey Moorehead also had 3 fish and George Gallagher had a couple of nice fish. On Thursday 25 September the Corbet was busy with all 7 boats out. Stevie Rea and Mark Douglas had 28 fish to the boat on cormorants, diawl bachs and boobies. Tom King and Gerard Lyness had 22 fish up to 5lbs to the boat by fishing deep with small black lures. Sam Grant and Wilson Clinghan fished on the drift using a floating line and a sink tip line and they had 16 fish between them. Martin Ferguson and Maurice Grant fished with sink tip lines and they had 12 fish to the boat. Lance McCarthy and Stevie Ferris had 11 fish between them with Stevie also losing a cracking fish which he reckoned could have been between 6 and 7lbs. Dessy Graham had 6 fish to the boat using a floating line and black buzzers. Brendan Downey also had 6 fish to the boat. He also lost a very big fish which he reckoned was at least 6lbs. Les Patton and Neil McAdam had 3 fish up to 5lbs on cormorants. Geoff Hylands and Donald McClearn caught nice fish from the shore. On Friday 26 September the boats were again all out on the Corbet Lough. Lenny Murray and John McBride had 30 fish to the boat fishing a floating line and dry sedges. Martin Hawkins and Pat Magee had 25 fish to the boat between them. Stevie Rea and Lance McCarthy had 16 fish using a washing line set up of a sink tip line and two cormorants between two boobies. Lenny Ervine and Geoffrey Moorehead also had 16 fish to the boat using a slow intermediate line and cormorants and bloodworms. Geoffrey had a great fish of 6lbs on a bloodworm. Alan Hanna and Harry Clarke had 8 fish using a floating line and diawl bachs. Stevie McArdle and Jim Kennedy had 6 fish between them on shipmans and a hares ear. Eamon and Del Rodgers had fish on cormorants. On Saturday 27 September it was a wet and windy morning and only a couple of boats ventured out on the Corbet. However the conditions improved throughout the day and both boats enjoyed some great sport. Stevie Clarke and Gary Crothers had 43 fish between them to the boat. Dessie Copeland and Conor Kelly were out in the afternoon and they had 14 fish between them on daddies and diawl bachs. The Club’s competition anglers were also at the Corbet. The adults were fishing for the Hugh Savage Cup and the juveniles were fishing for the Super-Fry Cup. At the weigh-in Geoff Hylands won the Hugh Savage Cup (on his birthday) with a great bag of fish weighing just over 8lbs. Dessy Graham and Colin Crothers were 2nd and 3rd respectively. In the juvenile competition Malachy McKinney won the Super-Fry Cup. In other news Andrew Rea, club member and local angler, won the interpro competition and was the top rod on the Ulster team which won the interpro competition on Lough Lein, Killarney, Co Kerry on Saturday 27 September. Andrew caught 5 fish for 1.102kg. John Johnson, another local angler, also fished for the winning Ulster team. Andrew has now qualified to fish for the Irish team in the 2026 internationals. Congratulations Andrew and John. On Sunday 28 September there was 6 boats out on the Corbet and and few shore anglers fishing. David McQuade and Peter Martelli had 13 fish to the boat fishing suspender buzzers and dry flies on a floating line. Philip Rankin and John Lewis had 12 fish between them to the boat fishing blobs, boobies and diawl bachs on a floating line and a sink tip line. Lance McCarthy and Stevie Ferris also had 12 fish using a sink tip line and fabs, blobs and cormorants. Matthew Cooper and Thomas Megarry had 11 fish to the boat fishing a hoover line with green buzzers and woofters. Gerard Lyness and Malachy Cumberton had 11 fish between them on dries. Jamie Cooper had 4 fish using a fast intermediate and a variety of flies. On the shore Roger McClements had 11 fish up to 4lbs. Wilson Clinghan, Rachel Barlow and Ella McDowell had 3 fish each on the spinner. Brian McConville and Paul McKinstry had a couple of fish each on diawl bachs. Louis Clarke also had a nice fish on a diawl bach. The Corbet Lough fished well throughout the month of September with both boat and shore anglers catching some fantastic fish.
