
On Thursday 2 October all the boats were out again on the Corbet Lough. Brendan Downey had 12 fish up to about 4lbs to the boat using a floating line and pulling wets just under the surface. Stevie Rea was out for a morning session and he had 6 fish to the boat and got broke on a really big fish. Lance McCarthy and Stevie Ferris were also out for a morning session and they had 6 fish between them to the boat. Unfortunately the boat angling on the Corbet had to be curtailed on Friday 3 October and Saturday 4 October due to Storm Amy. On Monday 6 October Paul Devlin was fly fishing from the shore and he caught 10 fish using a floating line with caddis flies and diawl bachs. On Thursday 9 October all the boats were out on the Corbet Lough and there was a few anglers fishing from the shore. The top boat was Davy Kidd and Ned Shannon who caught 28 fish between them on small dries. Tom King and Gerard Lyness had 9 fish between them to the boat with a couple of lovely fish about 3.5lbs. Geoff Hylands and Lenny Ervine had 7 fish between them to the boat. Lance McCarthy and Stevie Ferris had 6 fish between them. Brendan Downey had 5 fish up to 5lbs to the boat fishing a floating line and pulling wets just under the surface. Dessy Graham was fly fishing from the shore and he caught a couple of fish and lost a few. On Friday 10 October Lenny Ervine and Geoff Hylands were out on the Corbet Lough for a boat session and they had 7 fish each on shuttlecocks. David McQuade and Paul Martelli had 15 fish to the boat on a claret bumble and buzzers. On Saturday 11 October the Club’s competition anglers were back at the Corbet Lough. The adults were fishing for the Gowdy Cup and the juniors were fishing for the Corbet Junior Cup. In the adult competition Dessy Graham won the Gowdy Cup with a good bag of fish weighing 8lbs 4ozs. Roger McClements and Donald McClearn were 2nd and 3rd respectively. In the junior competition Pearse Downey won the Corbet Junior Cup with 3 nice fish. Ivan McVeigh and Matthew Henry were out on the Corbet for a boat session and they had 30 fish up to 5lbs between them on small dries. Simon Henderson had a couple of fish on the dry fly. Denis Lucas and Rory McKee had 3 fish to the boat with Denis catching a beautiful fully finned brownie. On Sunday 12 October Stevie Clarke and David Kidd were out on the Corbet and they had 22 fish between them on dries. Lance McCarthy and Stevie Ferris had 6 fish between them to the boat on shipmans and emergers. Wilson Clinghan had 6 fish to the boat on dries and blobs. Andy Holden and Sam Watt had 3 fish to the boat on emergers. Jim McClelland and Aidan Lavery had 3 fish on shuttlecocks. Simon and Jonathan McNeilly had fish on daddies and buzzers. On the shore Ronnie Adair had 6 fish and Eamonn Rodgers had a couple of fish. On Thursday 16 October all the boats were out on the Corbet Lough. Geoff Hylands and Lenny Ervine had 4 fish between them to the boat. Stevie Rea and Paul Douglas were out and they had 8 fish between them to the boat. Brendan Downey was out and he caught 6 fish on a yellow owl shuttlecock buzzer. He also hooked and lost another 4 fish and rose a number of fish. Lance McCarthy and Stevie Ferris had a couple of fish each to the boat. Dessy Graham was fly fishing from the shore and he had 3 fish by lunchtime. He also hooked and lost a few other fish. On Saturday 18 October the Club’s competition anglers fished the final of the Boat Anglers Cup at the Corbet Lough. The conditions were challenging with a blustery wind across the Lough. This was a C&R competition and when the scorecards were checked two anglers had recorded 8 fish and two anglers had recorded 5 fish. When the timings and size of the first fish were noted the result was as follows – Raymond Cherry 1st with 8 fish, Donald McClearn 2nd with 8 fish and Wilson Clinghan 3rd with 5 fish. On Wednesday 22 October the shore anglers at the Corbet Lough enjoyed some great fishing. Ronnie Adair had 22 fish on the fly, Dessy Graham had 13 fish on the fly and Donald McClearn had 7 fish on the fly of the Dam Wall. Geoffrey Moorehead also had a few fish on the fly from the Dam Wall. Wilson Clinghan had a cracking fish of over 5lbs on the fly. Geoff Hylands also had a lovely fish of over 3lbs on the fly. On Thursday 23 October the conditions had changed and it was much colder. The fishing was challenging for the boat anglers at the Corbet Lough. Gerard Lyness and Tom King had 5 fish to the boat. Freddie Steele and Wilson Clinghan had a couple of fish to the boat. Lenny Ervine and Geoffrey Moorehead also had a couple of fish to the boat. Stevie Rea had a couple of fish to the boat. On Friday 24 October the fishing at the Corbet Lough continued to be challenging. Louis Clarke and Stevie Rea had 7 fish to the boat using a variety of tactics. Lenny Murray and John McBride had 3 good fish. Brendan Downey had a couple of fish. Martin Hawkins and Pat Magee also had a couple of fish to the boat. The adverse weather on Thursday 30 October and Friday 31 October stopped many anglers from venturing out on the Corbet Lough. There was only one boat out on Thursday 30 October and the fishing was challenging with only 3 fish to the boat. The shore anglers enjoyed better sport during the final week of the season. Lenny Ervine, Geoffrey Moorehead, Geoff Hylands and Donald McClearn all had fish up to about 4lbs on the fly. Juvenile angler Liam Byrne had some good fish on the worm. On Friday 31 October there was 5 boats out on the Corbet Lough. Donald McClearn and Geoff Hylands had 9 fish to the boat. Stevie Rea and Louis Clarke had 7 fish between them. Geoffrey Moorehead and Lenny Ervine had 3 fish with Lenny catching a cracking fish of over 5 lbs. Stevie Ferris and Frank Kearney had a couple of fish. Dessie Copeland and Aaron Copeland also had a couple of fish On the shore Ronnie Adair, Roger McClements, Raymond Cherry, Denis Lucas and Roy McKee all caught good fish.
The Corbet Lough and the Club’s stretch of the River Bann closed to angling at midnight on 31 October in accordance with the Fisheries Act (Northern Ireland) 1966. If you are a coarse angler who fishes for pike during the winter months please note that the Club’s stretch of the River Bann is designated as a game fishery under the Fisheries Act (Northern Ireland) 1966 and therefore angling during the period 1 November to 28/29 February is prohibited.
