The Club’s new Competition Secretary Damian Murtagh will get the 2017 Competition Programme for Adult and Juvenile members underway on Saturday 4 March at Corbet Lough with the Adults fishing in the inaugural competition for the Bobby Blakley Cup and the Juveniles fishing for the McComb Cup. The Bobby Blakley Cup is a beautiful cup presented by the Blakley family in Bobby’s memory. It is a fitting tribute to Bobby who loved all country sports. He was a very keen angler and enjoyed fishing the Club’s waters, including Corbet Lough. In his later years Bobby had some health challenges but it did not deter him. He would still go up to the Corbet with Joe McCart and he enjoyed being in the countryside and spending a few hours fishing. He was always in good spirit and he would happily spend time chatting with other anglers. He particluarily enjoyed talking about ‘the good old fishing and shooting days’ and about the anglers of his generation, such as the late Bruce Carson.

The Adult Angler of the Year competition has been very close in recent years with only a point or so between the winner and the other competitiors. Therefore the serious competition anglers will be looking to attend every competition and try and pick up at least a point in every competition. The Club wishes all the competition anglers tight lines and hopes they they also enjoy the craic and the friendship of their fellow competitors.
