Fishing the fly on the Upper Bann

The Club’s stretch of the River Bann re-opened for angling on 18 May 2020. There have been reports of some nice trout being caught on the River. Local angler Darrell McKinley has been catching some nice fish in the evenings. All anglers fishing the River Bann are reminded that the indigenous wild brown trout in the River are precious and should not be dispatched. Please fish C,P & R (Catch, Photograph and Release). On Saturday 23 May the Corbet Lough re-opened for shore fishing only. There has been a good turn out of local anglers since the re-opening and it is encouraging to see that anglers are complying with the Social Distancing and the NI Executives other advice and guidance whenever they are are the Corbet. With regard to the actual fishing, there have been some great bags of fish and some great fish caught since the re-opening. Davy McCandless has been catching some great fish on the fly from along the front shore including a beautiful Rainbow of over 6lbs. Nigel Beckett has also been catching some great bags of fish on the fly. Derek Curran has also taken a great fish of over 6lbs on the fly.
