BAC – Juvenile anglers with a great Rainbow caught at Corbet Lough on Saturday 4 July 2020

The month of July has started as June finished with reports of some nice fish being caught on the Corbet Lough and the River Bann. The worm fishing started at the Corbet Lough on 1 July 2020. It has been great to see a good turn out of young anglers fishing at the Corbet. The fly fishers have also been enjoying some some great top of the water sport at the Corbet and there have been reports of good catches on buzzers, sedges and hoppers. On Thursday 2 July there was a great turn out of boat anglers and shore anglers fishing at the Corbet. In the morning Darrell McKinley and Stevie Rea had a great boat seesion taking numerous fish of 3lbs and better on dries and buzzers just below the surface. In the afternoon and early evening George Vennard was fishing from the shore and he took some great fish on small sedges. In the evening there was a great rise and most anglers reported good catches. Joe and Patrick Curran had 14 fish to the boat on shipmans buzzers. Brendan Downey was fishing from the shore and he took 9 fish on sedge patterns. On Saturday 4 July the Corbet was again very busy with both boat and shore anglers. Henry McKnight was fly fishing from the shore and he was catching some great fish on a variety of flies. Young anglers Pearse Downey and Xavier Mackle were fishing with a bubble float and worm at the Corbet for the first time. They had great fun catching some fantastic Rainbows. A group of Lisburn anglers held a boat fishing birthday party for their friend Aidan Lavery at the Corbet. They all enjoyed the fishing and finished off the day with some birthday cake in the car park whilst complying with the current COVID-19 guidelines. Many happy returns Aidan and we hope that you enjoy many more fishing birthday parties at the Corbet. On Monday 13 July Sandy Boyd and his grandson Jordan had a great boat session at the Corbet Lough. It was a special day for Jordan as he caught his first fish on the fly. On Thursday 16 July Dessie Graham was boat fishing at the Corbet Lough and he caught a fantastic Rianbow of 7lbs. The fish hit the fly and took off so fast that it left Dessie with finger burn. On Friday 17 July juvenile angler Sam Curran was boat fishing at the Corbet and he was regularly into fish. On Sunday 19 July Leonard Ervine was fishing the fly at the Corbet and he caught a cracking Rainbow of 5lbs 8ozs. On Tuesday 21 July Michael Steenson was fishing the fly from Bruce’s Point and he also took a couple of cracking Rainbows in the 5lb 8ozs – 6lbs bracket. On Thursday 23 July the Lough was busy with both boat and shore anglers. In the morning and early afternoon Stevie Rea and Mark Douglas had 14 fish to the boat. Wesley Beattie and Jim McClellend caught 12 fish to the boat. Gerard Lyness and Malachy Cumberton had 8 fish to the boat. In the evening Eugene Curran and Richie Jamison caught 14 fish to the boat. Geoff Hylands and Gary McCormack had 11 fish to the boat. Darryl Alexander, Dessie Graham, Sam Grant and David Hutchinson all had 4 fish to the boat. On Saturday 25 July Dean McStraw was boat fishing at the Corbet Lough and he caught a fantastic Rainbow.
