Corbet Lough Open Boat Fly Fishing Competition 2022 – Presentation to the Red Cross’ Ukraine Appeal

BAC – Corbet Lough Open Boat Fly Fishing Competition 2022. Joe McCandless, President and Sam Watt, Chairman present a cheque for £500 to Richard Watters, Red Cross for the Ukraine Crisis Fund at the Corbet Lough on 25 August 2022.

On Saturday 25 June Banbridge Angling Club held the Corbet Lough Open Boat Fly Fishing Competition 2022 in aid of two nominated charities, the Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Fund and the Alzheimer’s Society. The Competition was a great success attracting an entry field of 30 anglers. The Competition also received tremendous support and generous donations from local businesses and individuals. The Competition, along with a ‘make-up’ donation from Banbridge Angling Club, raised a fantastic £1,000 to be divided equally between the Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Fund and the Alzheimer’s Society.

On Thursday 25 August Richard Watters, British Red Cross visited the Corbet Lough and the Club’s President Joe McCandless and Chairman Sam Watt presented Richard with a cheque for £500 for the Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Fund. Richard thanked the Club for its very generous donation towards the Red Cross’ Ukraine Appeal.

In February 2022 the British Red Cross launched an emergency fundraising appeal to support the work of the Ukrainian Red Cross, the International Committee of the Red Cross and other Red Cross and Red Cross partners working in border countries. The Red Cross has assisted more than 5 million people so far. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Cross Societies has delivered more than 164,000 tons of critical life-saving aid in support of people displaced by the conflict, to date. The Red Cross has also provided emergency financial assistance to more than 600,000 people inside Ukraine and its bordering countries and has helped more than 640,000 people with housing rehabilitation, shelter and/or temporary accommodation. As summer comes to an end the Red Cross teams are preparing for the cold winter ahead to ensure that those impacted are safe and well.
