BAC – Paul Douglas with a great Rainbow Trout caught at the Corbet Lough on 29 May 2023

At the end of May 2023 a pair of sunglasses were found at the Corbet Lough and handed in to the Boat Attendants’ Office. If you lost a pair of sunglasses at the Corbet please contact the Boat Attendants and give them the relevent information to confirm that they belong to you and you can collect them there. Although the weather has turned very hot with ‘wall to wall’ sunshine the anglers are adopting their tactics accordingly and still reporting some great catches from the boats and from the shore in the late evening. On Thursday 1 June Aidan Lavery and Jim McClelland were boat fishing at the Corbet Lough and they had 20 fish between them. Gerard Lyness and Malachy Cumberton were also out and they had 29 fish to the boat between them. Les Patton and Neil McAdam had 7 fish between them to the boat. On Friday 2 June Aidan Lavery and Jim McClellend were back at the Lough and they had 16 fish to the boat. Dennis Lucas and Roy McKee had 13 fish to the boat. On Saturday 3 June Aidan Lavery and Eddie Harris were at the Corbet and they had 12 Rainbows between them to the boat. Stevie Clarke was also out for a boat session and he had 20 Rainbows. In the evening the Club’s adult competition anglers fished the Corbet Lough for the Jim Ledlie Cup. At the weigh-in Noel Burns won the Cup with a catch of 4lbs 6ozs. Roger McClements and Frank Kearney were 2nd and 3rd respectively. On Sunday 4 June Frank Kearney and visiting angler Anthony Donnelly from Dundalk were on the Corbet for a boat session and they had 17 Rainbows between them. On Friday 9 June Brendan Downey was out in the afternoon and he had 6 Rainbows and 2 nice Brownies to the boat. Sam Watt was out for a boat session in the late afternoon and he caught 20 fish. Sam Grant was bvoat fishing in the eveving and he had 7 fish. The Club wishes to draw to our boat anglers’ attention that the rising cost of the purchase and maintenance of electric engines, batteries and lifejackets is becoming a major issue. The Club should be very grateful if boat anglers would treat these items with great care to help extend their durability and life span. On Saturday 10 June the Club’s adult competition anglers fished the River Bann for the beautiful Otterburn Brown Trout Trophy. At the weigh-in Trevor Jones won the Otterburn Brown Trout Trophy with Geoff Hylands in 2nd place and Roger McClements 3rd. On Thursday 15 June the fishing conditions at the Corbet Lough were showing signs of deteriorating after almost a month of strong sunshine and warm water temperatures. In light of this the Club has closed the Corbet Lough until further notice.
