BAC – Joe Curran setting out to fish the Garrison Open on Lough Melvin on 23 August 2023

On Friday 1 September Aidan Lavery and Eddie Harris were out for a boat fishing session on the Corbet. They caught 3 fish between them. Wilson Clinghan was also out and he also had 3 fish to the boat. On Saturday 2 September Aidan Lavery and Eddie Harris were back at the Corbet and they had 7 fish to the boat. Raymond Cherry and Gary Chivers were also out in a boat and they caught 6 fish between them. Tim Doherty and David Cupples were out for a few hours and they caught 3 fish to the boat. Geoff Twinen was out for a couple of hours and he had 1 fish. Conor Kelly was also out for a couple of hours and he also had 1 fish to the boat. On Sunday 3 September Sam Watt and Andy Holden were out for a few hours during the morning and they caught 4 fish to the boat. On Monday 4 September Martin Bush was out for an evening’s boat fishing and he caught 3 fish up to about 3.5lbs using a floating line and small klickhammers. Martin also reported that he rose at least another 10 fish. David McKeague was bait fishing in the top bay and he caught 2 nice fish. On Thursday 7 September Sam Grant was out on the Corbet for a boat fishing session. Sam went deep out in the middle of the Lough and he caught 5 fish up to 3.5lbs. Stevie Rea was also out and he also had 5 fish to the boat. On Saturday 9 September the Club’s adult competition anglers fished the Corbet for the Gowdy Cup. The conditions were extremely challenging with bright sunshine and hot temperatures. At the weigh-in Colin Crothers won the Gowdy Cup. On Sunday 10 September Sam Watt was on the Corbet during the morning for a boat session and he caught 5 fish. On Monday 11 September Lance McCarthy and Matt Shields were out on the Corbet during the morning and they caught 4 fish between them. Keith Moffitt and Dessie Copeland were also out and they had 5 fish to the boat. Brendan Downey was in during the late morning and afternoon and he caught 4 fish up to 3lbs. On Thursday 14 September Paul Devlin was bait fishing in the top bay at the Corbet and he very quickly caught 2 fish. Dessy Graham was also in the top bay and he caught a fish on the spinner. Gerard Lyness and Tom King were out on the Corbet for a boat fishing session and they had 18 fish between them. On Sunday 17 September the Club’s competition anglers fished a ‘catch and release’ competition at the Corbet Lough for the Boat Anglers Cup. The 20 competing anglers caught and released 60 fish between them. At the weigh-in Keith Cole won the Cup with 6 fish. Kevin Conwell was 2nd with 5 fish. Kevin just pipped Stevie Clarke who also had 5 fish. Stevie took 3rd place. On Thursday 21 September there was a good turn out of anglers at the Corbet Lough. Gerard Lyness and Tom King were boat fishing and they caught 4 fish between them. Brendan Downey was also boat fishing and he caught 3 fish up to 3.5lbs. Sam Grant was also out for a boat session and he caught 6 fish up to 4.5lbs. Martin Bush was fly fishing from the shore and he had 6 fish up to 4lbs. On Saturday 23 September the adult competition anglers were fishing at the Corbet Lough for the Toasty Jardine Shield. Kevin Conwell, Dessy Graham, Roger McClements and Noel Burns weighed in some great fish. Indeed Dessy Graham hooked 18 fish and landed 9 of them. Kevin Conwell won the Toasty Jardine Shield with Dessy Graham and Roger McClements 2nd and 3rd respectively. Junior angler Elijah Parks won the Corbet Junior Cup with a nice fish. Davy McGuinness was out boat fishing and he caught 10 fish, including an absolute cracker of 9lbs. Eddie Harris and Gary McClelland were also out boat fishing and they caught 10 fish between them. Sam Watt and Andy Holden were out boat fishing on the Corbet on Sunday 24 September and they had great sport catching a number of fish up to 4lbs. On Monday 25 September Lance McCarthy and Matt Shields were boat fishing on the Corbet and they caught 4 fish between them. Les Patton was out for a boat session from late morning to mid afternoon and he had 15 fish to the boat. Brendan Downey was fly fishing from the shore and he had great sport taking fish up to 4.5lbs. The month finished with high water and challenging conditions on the lough and high water in the River. On Thursday 28 September Lance McCarthy and Matt Shields were out on the Corbet and they had a couple of good Rainbows. Roy Blake was also out boat fishing and he caught 6 fish. On Friday 29 September Davy McGuinness was at the Corbet and he had 10 fish up to about 8lbs. Brian McConville was also out and he had a couple of fish to the boat. On Saturday 30 September Eddie Harris and Gary McClelland were out at the Corbet and they had 3 fish to the boat. Lance McCarthy was also out and he had a couple of fish to the boat. During the last week of the month Patrick Curran had a lovely wild trout on the River and Eugene Curran caught a salmon on the Club’s stretch of the River.
